Harrisburg Lancaster Lebanon York, PA, October 1, 2026 —

Pennsylvania State Senator Kristin Phillips-Hill has joined forces with WellSpan to introduce a mobile mammography unit in East York. This initiative is designed to increase access to breast cancer screenings in communities that historically experience lower rates of these vital health checks.

The collaboration aims to address disparities in healthcare access by bringing diagnostic services directly to residents. Mobile mammography units are crucial for reaching underserved populations, including those in rural areas or individuals who face transportation challenges or time constraints that prevent them from visiting traditional screening centers.

Senator Phillips-Hill’s office stated the partnership’s objective is to proactively improve breast cancer screening rates within East York. Early detection through regular mammograms is widely recognized by medical professionals as a key factor in improving patient outcomes and survival rates for breast cancer.

Further details regarding the specific operational schedule, locations where the unit will be deployed, and eligibility criteria were not immediately available. The absence of these details means the full scope and immediate impact of the initiative remain to be seen. Information on how residents can schedule appointments or learn more about the service is anticipated.

WellSpan, a health system serving Pennsylvania and Maryland, is involved in providing the mobile unit and its associated medical services. The partnership underscores a commitment from both the state senator and the healthcare provider to enhance preventive care and public health within the region.
